The Story

Overview

Cradled between the Himalayan foothills and the emerald Ganga, Rishikesh is where India came to pause. Bells echo through the morning mist as the river carries the names of a thousand prayers downstream. Yoga shalas open into rooftops over the water; sadhus sit folded in saffron beside the ghats; the air tastes faintly of tulsi and cardamom. Come for the river. Leave with the silence.

Travel Wisdom

  1. Drink only sealed bottled water; the holy river is not for thirst.
  2. Cover shoulders & knees in ashrams and aarti zones — even men.
  3. Avoid bathing in the Ganga past Ram Jhula — currents are deceptive.
  4. Monsoon (Jul–Sep) brings landslides on the Char Dham routes.
